Reader question:

Will a bad driving record affect my liability insurance rates in Houston TX? I am considered a high risk driver and want to get assigned risk coverage, so I am told.

Glad you asked.

One of the things that affects your liability insurance rates in Houston TX the most is your driving record. Whether you drive like a saint or like a crazy person, your driving record will send your rates flying up or down.

The reason for this is because liability coverage pays for damages that you cause to someone else (and their vehicle), so how reckless you are apt to drive is pretty relevant here. So what kind of tickets affect your liability insurance rates in Houston?

Well, there are some tickets which will affect your rates, but not necessarily the liability ones specifically. For example, if you have tickets for no insurance or for expired registration, then you will have higher rates, even though these have nothing to do with your ability to drive–the idea is that you are less responsible, and thus more likely to file more claims.

However, things like speeding tickets, DUIs–pretty much any moving violation will affect your rates.

Raising your deductible amount is still the best way to lower your annual rates. You only have to pay that amount when and if you have a claim and your carrier pays the claim.

take care,

Fashun
